Short Term Accommodation (STA)
What is STA?
Short Term Accommodation (STA) and respite is funding for support and accommodation for a short stay away from your usual home. The NDIA can fund up to 28 days of STA in a plan, which can be used for short stays with other people, or by yourself for up to 14 days at a time.
How can STA help you?
Short Term Accommodation, including respite, is funding for support and accommodation for a short time away from your usual home. It covers the cost of your care in another place for up to 14 days at a time. You might have a short stay with other people, or by yourself. It’s often funded when your usual carers aren’t available, or for you to try new things.
STA is only funded if it relates to your disability support needs, such as:
- Helps you maintain functional capacity.
- Helps you to increase your independence.
- Helps you to do more activities.
- Promotes independence.
- Your family or informal supports can support you for longer.
